| Project Pixel is made up of 25 students, none of whom have any previous experience in video game production |
A group of students from The University of Sheffield, with no prior experience in the industry, has launched Project Pixel, developing two mobile phone games to raise funds for charity.
Led by friends Aamir Ali and Najaaz Nabhan, the 25-strong team has acquired skills in programming and sound production during the development process.
Their first game, Color Dash, is already available on both Apple's App Store and Google Play. Another game, Flight Frenzy, is set for release soon, with all proceeds earmarked for charity.
The students received guidance from Sheffield-based video game developer Sumo Digital, known for titles like Forza Horizon 4 and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
Jake Habgood from Sumo Digital praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of diverse skill sets in the gaming industry.
Currently, two more games, Turtle Odyssey and Chef's Last Stand, are in development under Project Pixel.
Nabhan highlighted the team's aim to leverage gaming's widespread appeal to support charitable causes, noting the uniqueness of their endeavor within the student community.
The specific charities to benefit from the project's proceeds will be determined later this year.
