| Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) Explores Potential for Geologic Hydrogen Exploration in Indonesia |
Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) is exploring the potential for geological hydrogen exploration in Indonesia.
As of March 2024, PHE has completed drilling of three exploration wells, 163 development wells, 219 workovers and 8,323 service wells. In the field of surveying, PHE has carried out 2D seismic surveys covering 12 km and 3D seismic surveys covering 2,602 km2.
PHE's exploration efforts yielded results with a total discovery of 2C resources of 140 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE).
This time, PHE, through the New Venture Function, is trying to develop exploration potential for Geologic Hydrogen in the Eastern region of Indonesia.
PHE started implementing the G&G study of Geologic Hydrogen potential in East Sulawesi Ophiolite through the kick off meeting stage for the Geologic Hydrogen exploration study or known as Natural Hydrogen.
This study is also a form of support for PHE's vision and mission and the company's roadmap related to Emission Reduction in 2025 - 2034, as well as PHE's sustainability policy to become an environmentally friendly company that provides energy access and supports green energy to support the transition agenda. national climate.
VP New Venture PHE Bintoro Wibowo said, exploration to find Geologic/Natural Hydrogen will be one of Pertamina's hopes as greener and cleaner energy, and Pertamina welcomes research or opportunities or collaboration with all parties, especially from academics, researchers, as well as from other stakeholders.
"We are talking that in the future, this will be the leading energy for the world towards the decade of Geologic Hydrogen and net zero emissions," said Bintoro in an official statement, Saturday (11/5).
Principal Expert Researcher, Hydrogen Technology Researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Deni Shidqi Khaerudini said that Geologic Hydrogen is a source of hydrogen that comes from below the earth's surface and is stored in rocks.
"There are 4 types of Geologic Hydrogen, namely White/natural Hydrogen, Gold Hydrogen, Orange Hydrogen and aqua hydrogen," said Deni.
According to Deni, all types of geological hydrogen are closely related to geology and require an understanding of rocks and geological knowledge to be able to carry out exploration and exploitation.
"And PHE, with its capabilities and experience in oil and gas exploration, can of course carry out geological hydrogen exploration in Indonesia and even abroad," he added.
National Energy Council (DEN) Musri Ma'waleda said that Geologic Hydrogen is a clean energy source and has been included in the national energy mix plan.
Geologic Hydrogen exploration is very closely related to oil and gas exploration activities so that PHE deserves to be a leader in Geologic Hydrogen exploration and exploitation activities in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, PHE will continue to invest in managing upstream oil and gas operations and businesses in accordance with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. PHE has been registered with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as a member since June 2022.
